New Hotspot Location in Newcastle (Archive) – nbdesigns

Category: Best Use of Regional Dialect

The Chip Shop Awards are an international creative awards scheme with no limits or rules – it’s all about ideas. The work need not have run and the creator need not work for the client.

The Awards  are open until the 16th March but in the run up, they’re running a weekly vote that’s open to the public to acknowledge some of the best entries to date.

With work being entered under categories including: ‘best work for any brand you haven’t a hope of winning’, ‘ best use of plagiarism’ and ‘best use of bad taste’, it’s definitely worth a look, if for nothing more than to get your creative juices flowing or to put a smile on your face.

New Facebook Mobile Addition is…

February 7th, 2012

Over the past year Facebook has gradually been updating their services for mobile and their latest addition is……Mobile Ads!

According to new reports, Facebook is just weeks away from running ads on your mobile. They are ready to exploit the lucrative revenue available in the ever growing mobile market, following the success of ads on Facebook itself. The ads will follow the same format for mobile as they do on the full Facebook site, so there’s nothing new for marketeers to master!

Starwood Hotels adds customer reviews to Facebook

February 2nd, 2012

Well well we all new this day would come, but we didn’t think it would come in this form. Starwood Hotels and Resorts have added a new customer service tab to there Facebook page, Discover. Which allows guests to grade their experiences while staying.

Is this a good idea or just plain foolish opening up yourself to public opinion? Comments below.

If you don’t already spend enough time on Facebook

January 24th, 2012

With the launch of the Facebook Timeline, the social media giant have also unveiled their latest expansion by adding 60+ new apps to their feed, allowing there users to share even more info like food, e-books, fashion, travel and photo through apps such as ‘Foodspotting,’ ‘Rotten tomatoes,’ ‘Pinterest,’ ‘TripAdviser’ and ‘Kobo.’ These will work on the same bases as ’Open Graph’ which already allows users to share the music they are listening or articles they are reading.

The one downside to this is that once you add the apps they will automatically share your activity through Facebook.

What do you think? Do you what to automatically share even more things on Facebook?

Facebook take’s a leaf out of Google’s book

January 17th, 2012

Facebook has taken a leaf out of Google’s book and added a combination of paid-for and organic marketing to their offerings and have admitted that paid adverts are now appearing in users’ news feeds and look identical to normal posts.

Facebook have started rolling out unsolicited adverts into users regular updates, labelling them ‘Featured’ rather than ‘Sponsored Stories’: will this fool people into clicking on the ‘stories’ if they don’t realise what they are?

But the adverts are likely to prove extremely lucrative for Facebook as advertisers are ready to buy them, but the one down side for them is Facebook will only allow one paid news story a day to appear in news feeds and there will be no integration across the mobile version of the site. Facebook has, however, vowed to only display adverts for pages that users have already ‘liked’, so spam messages shouldn’t become an issue.

Facebook’s decision might not go down so well with its 800 million+ users.

Anti-Drugs on Facebook

January 12th, 2012

With Facebooks new addition of ‘The Timeline’ to users profiles pages, it’s no wonder that the Israeli Anti-Drug Authority is one of the first brands to use their service to advertise the use and non use of drugs.

As shown below, their timeline features the appearance of ‘Adam Barak’ after a year on drugs vs. a year staying clean. Facebook Timeline is not open to brands or companies to date.

Note: This is a fake profile page and not a real person:

What do you think, does this disturb you as much it does us?

63,206 Characters

January 6th, 2012

Every thought “I want to be a writer” but don’t know where to share the first couple chapters so you can judge the response? Well Facebook has the answer.

Facebook has updated their services for the New Year by letting their users share a status up to 63,206 characters long. Well that puts the 140 character limit twitter has to shame!

How has Facebook come about this random number? Facebook engineer Bob Baldwin explains:

“Facebook … Face Boo K … hex (FACE) – K … 64206 – 1000 = 63206. In other words, calculating the number using the hexadecimal numeral system: The hexadecimal value of “FACE” is 64,206. Then, Baldwin subtracted “K,” or “kilo-” (the prefix for 1,000), to arrive at 63,206.”

Now, want to see just how far 63,206 characters will get you? Take a look at this:

Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech seven times (about 9,000 characters)

The lyrics to The Beatles’ “Let It Be” 54 times (1,170 characters)

Obama’s 2011 State of the Union address nearly 1.5 times (39,470 characters)

Hamlet’s “To Be or Not To Be” soliloquy 43 times (1,455 characters)

The Pledge of Allegiance more than 350 times (180 characters)

The Gettysburg Address almost 49 times (1,300 characters)

The lyrics to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” 31 times (2,000 characters)

JFK’s “Ask Not” speech more than eight times (7,600 characters)

Maybe we need to rethink our status updates in the DDCA office!

We’d love to hear your comments below on what you will be filling your 63,206 character statuses with!

Youtube Slam!

December 30th, 2011

Youtube has thrown in another excuse for us to spend obscene amounts of time watching silly yet hilarious videos as they officially unveiled YouTube Slam. How does it work? Well basically every so often Youtube will present two independent videos and they will battle head-to-head for your votes. Public voting determines the winners.

The purpose of this competitive display is to help bring otherwise missed videos to users attention.

Youtube describes Slam as a “place for discovering talented amateur singers, the most adorable clips and the craziest videos on YouTube.” There are five different categories within Slam: comedy, cute, bizarre, dance and music.

Winners of your votes will be posted on a leader board and the voters earn points for voting for the most popular video.

Obviously there will be some glitches such as questionable content which has been felt with be Youtube via a “Flag as Inappropriate” button. Sorted.

Will this be yet another 5 minute wonder or another addictive cyber drug only time will tell.
